What is a Protocol?

A protocol is a structured plan or set of guidelines designed to achieve specific goals or outcomes.  In the context of wellness, a protocol includes actions, routines, or treatments tailored to an individual’s needs, focusing on improving health, performance, or quality of life. Examples of protocols include daily exercise regimens, nutrition plans, hydration strategies, and therapeutic practices.

Developing the Habit of Following a Protocol
  1. Start Small

    • Begin with manageable actions.  For instance, if hydration is part of your protocol, start with a goal like drinking one extra glass of water daily.

  2. Create a Routine

    • Integrate the protocol into your daily life by attaching it to existing habits (e.g., on your way to work swing by for a 10 minute red light therapy session on M-W-F).

  3. Track Progress

    • Use a journal, app, or checklist to monitor your consistency.  Seeing your progress builds motivation and reinforces the habit.

  4. Set Reminders

    • Use alarms, sticky notes, or digital alerts to keep your protocol top of mind until it becomes second nature.

  5. Celebrate Success

    • Reward yourself for milestones to create positive associations with following the protocol.

  6. Adapt and Refine

    • Regularly evaluate how the protocol fits your life and make adjustments to keep it relevant and effective.

With time and consistency, following a protocol becomes an ingrained habit that supports ongoing improvements in health and well-being.
